Hosted by Iris Mayo

Named after Rosita Melo's beloved 1911 Argentine tango vals "Desde el Alma" ("From the Soul"), Santa Cruz's Milonga Desde El Alma is a cherished monthly gathering for the Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay Argentine tango community, held on the third Saturday of every month in The 418 Project's Large Theater.

Join host Iris Mayo and rotating guest tango DJs from across the Bay Area and beyond for an evening of traditional Golden Age tandas and cortinas—weaving together classic tango, vals, and milonga on our spacious sprung hardwood dance floor.

What to Expect

• Warm, Welcoming Ronda: Open to seasoned milongueros and newcomers alike—no partner required.
• Rotating Guest TDJs: Each month features a curated lineup of acclaimed regional and visiting tango DJs keeping the floor moving all night.
• Community & Hospitality: Light snacks, refreshments, and cabaret tables around the perimeter of the floor for socializing between tandas.
• Sprung Wood Floor: Dance comfortably all evening in the heart of downtown Santa Cruz.
